Your multi-user license to reproduce is intended for one program, allowing you to reproduce enough manuals for all of the students attending your program. It does not give you permission to reproduce the manuals indefinitely for multiple programs. You will be required to renew your license for each program taught.

Note: This e-Book manual is copyrighted by resQmed Ltd., an electronic code key is required to open the book, accessed only on line. From there your CD will unlock and install directly to your C-drive so you may print out a hard copy and/or work off your computer.  The text file is only readable on Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can easily be downloaded for free. Full instructions are included with each CD. The Extrication.Com manual by Watson and Shaw is only available from Extrication.Com and resQmed Ltd. as an e-Book publication on CD.

Developed by Extrication.Com, the technique has been taught in our classes since 1989. The Modified Dash Roll (MDR) is the most radical change to extrication since the introduction of heavy rescue tools!

Extrication.Com is releasing a stand alone PDF or MS PowerPoint presentation for the purpose of detailing how to perform Extrication.Com's Modified Dash Roll to be used by extrication instructors. This the same program that we show in our "Vehicle Extrication: New Vehicle Technology" program.

The MDR is an alternative dash displacement technique that can be used in many different applications such as:

1.  4-6 Minute rapid extrication or less.
2.  Vehicle under ride with little forward clearance.
3.  SIPS avoidance.

We have included a slide show with printable Adobe PDF MDR Instructor Notes and student handouts. Each page has color images with text corresponding to the MDR slide show. You may order the slide show as a non-edible MS PowerPoint side show presentation, or as a Adobe PDF slide show.  The single licensed presentation will be copied on to a CD and is non edible. All PowerPoint versions will require a password to open the auto PowerPoint Viewer.

The technique is being taught throughout the world as an alternative extrication technique. It is not a catch all technique, but it is one that every responder should know how to do. The fasted time on record was by one of our alumni from the Fairfax VA County Fire Department, the responder did the entire extrication in a remarkable 3:42 minutes. With practice, responders can relocate a dash in 4-6 minutes, with the roof and doors on and minimal glass removal.

The technique only requires (2) tools; a large cutter (or reciprocating saw) and a large spreader (or small/medium ram).

New Innovation Tool for Vehicle Rescue

Over the years responders have improvised by fabricating make shift buttress plates (rocker channel/panel shoe) to use as a push point for a ram or spreaders. While fabricating specialty tool accessories can make vehicle rescue easier, there are liability issues that agencies need address. What happens when the device you fabricated slips out of place or fails and there is an injury to a responder or your patient? Buttress plates fabricated from channel iron do not fit properly on vehicle rocker channels. Poor design allows the base to ride up and slip out, when poorly engineered the product can fail at the welds or weaken under pressure extreme pressures from the tool. Virginia-Maryland Rescue Systems owner Ed Cutrell has sited how one responder using a homemade buttress plate kicked out and broke the responder's leg.

There is now a commercially available tool that Extrication.Com recommends over the use of other non-securing and homemade buttress plates, its called the TarHEEL® engineered and manufactured by Virginia-Maryland Rescue Systems, Inc. Using a hydraulic hand operated pump the tool clamps on to the rocker channel of a vehicle and does not relay on a structural pillar. The device can be positioned at any point on the rocker channel to compensate the length of the heavy rescue tool (ram or spreaders) being used to extend the reach and use as your stable push point. The tool is generic enough that it can be used with all rams and spreaders.

Extrication.Com has placed the TarHEEL® in our tool inventory and uses the device in our basic, intermediate and advanced programs for added safety during our practical sessions. One injury can more than pay for the cost of this specialty tool.
